Please click on I, Take Thee, Jesus...under sermon series for more information. This was the first message in our series, I, Take Thee, Jesus...UNFORTUNATELY, due to a technical issue, although it was recorded, it was unlistenable. In the next sermon, I reviewed the previous weeks (what was this weeks) teaching.

Our Advent series is titled: More than just a holiday: Jesus did not come to make a day holy; he came to make us holy. In this series we look at what makes Christmas, Christmas? Can it be Christmas without ribbons. "Can it come without tags, without packages, boxes or bags?" As the Grinch Who Stole Christmas wondered, “What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.” We believe it means a lot more. This morning we look a major player in the birth narrative of Jesus that often is given a minor role - Herod. It is important not to take Herod out of the nativity, for he represents the darkness that Jesus shone a light into.

This morning we look to the the wise men, the ones Matthew calls, The Magi. Who were these strange men? What about that star? They came seeking the King of the Jews. They were not Jews? Why were they there? What can they teach us? Is Christmas more than just giving presents to ourselves? Could these outsiders offer us a clue that to God in Christ, there is no such thing as someone outside his love?

This morning we look to the shepherds and how they just might point to whom God had in mind when He sent His Son. Christmas can be more than just getting together with our families. It can be a time of widening the circle to others to become family.

This week we continue our series Grace in the Gray: finding love in the midst of disagreement. This morning we are looking at how some choose to partake of alcohol and other choose to abstain. Who's right? Can both be? Bible passages such Romans 14, 1 Corinthians 8-10, Colossians 2, etc., speak of disputable issues – practices within the church that believers disagree over but are not clearly encouraged or forbidden in the Bible (is even that a disputable issue?). What makes or does not make a disputable issue? This is topic of this sermon series.

Some Christians feel it is fine to allow their kids to join in on Halloween related activities, some do not. Is halloween just a candy day or is it something more? This Sunday we will be asking that question. BUT ALSO...Some Christians drink alcohol, where others do not. Some choose to work on Sundays, where others will not. Who is right? Can both be?
